She briefly was a music theory student at Middle Tennessee State University, but she decided to concentrate on Evanescence during her freshman year. Lee and Ben Moody co-founded Evanescence, the rock group. The two met at a youth camp after Moody saw Lee playing Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I'm Not Going to do That)" on the piano. Within a few months, the pair was performing acoustic shows at Arkansas book shops and coffee shops. After recording independent albums they released their debut album, Fallen in 2003.
